Little Pink Pup wins 2019 March Madness!

as the winner of March Madness.
Frankie and Rafael are pleased to announce that Little Pink Pup won 2019 March Narrative Nonfiction Madness.  Eleven classes read the two books in the final and Little Pink Pup beat And Tango Makes Three by just one vote!

March Narrative Nonfiction Madness FINALS!

And Tango Makes Three and Little Pink Pup have made it to the finals of March Narrative Nonfiction Madness!  They beat out thirty other narrative nonfiction books to make it this far.  Ten classes from kindergarten to sixth grade will be voting on the final two books next week.  The winner will be announced the following week.
Both books are true animals stories and deal with families and including others.  Little Pink Pup is about a piglet raised by a dachshund and And Tango Makes Three is about two male penguins who raised a penguin chick in a zoo.

Four Books in March Madness Semifinals

The semifinals for March Narrative Nonfiction Madness have started!
Frankie's favorites are Little Pink Pup and The Secret Kingdom.  Little Pink Pup is about a piglet that is raised by a dachshund mother and The Secret Kingdom is about a man in India who created an amazing hidden world of art made out of junk.  Stay tuned to find out Rafael's favorites for the semifinals.
Rafael's picks are And Tango Makes Three and MoonshotAnd Tango Makes Three is the true story two penguins who become dads for a baby penguin.  Moonshot is a beautifully illustrated book about Apollo 11.

March Madness Now in Quarterfinals!

March Narrative Nonfiction Madness Begins!

2019 March Madness started this week with 32 narrative nonfiction books.  Seventeen classes are participating and reading pairs of books for each round and voting on their favorite one with reasons why they picked that one.  Rounds will continue until there is a  winner!

Bandicoot Announces 2019 Youth Media Awards

Bandicoot was lucky enough to attend the announcement of the 2019 Youth Media Awards at the American Library Association conference in Seattle on January 28th.  The award-winning books are available at the Westgate School Library or the public library. Here are the some of the awards that were announced.

Time to Find and Return 2018 Library Items!

Frankie returns library book after reading about civil rights.
It is almost half way through the school year and 136 students have overdue library resources that were checked out from September to December 2018.  These items need to be returned as soon as possible so others can use them.  Students with overdues of more than one week cannot check out until the items are paid for or returned. To find out what you are missing you can ask at the library before school or during library class check out or log into the library catalog and click on "My Info" tab.
